Islamic Education: Evaluation of the Achievements of Previous Conferences

Prof. Dr. Sayyid Ali Ashraf
Islamic Academy, University of Cambridge: United Kingdom

This paper was prepared in English and included a brief historical sketch of the First International Conference on Islamic Education held in Makkah in the year 1977, a survey of the five international educational conferences, an evaluation of the achievements that succeeded these conferences and a definition of what is to be done now.

The idea of the first Islamic conference on Islamic education held in Makkah in 1977, came as an attempt to examine educational system in Muslim countries and expose its secular facade which is contented with teaching Islamic education as a mere prescribed subject while teaching the other subjects from a secular western- standpoint. which includes concepts that run counter to Islamic assumptions on human nature, knowledge and the universe.
